RV refrigerators are nimble, tiny, and often jostled when traveling.

Therefore, it is common to occasionally need to troubleshoot problems.

I created EverChill RV Fridge: Complete Troubleshooting Guide as a service to you.

Start by shutting off the breaker for at least two hours in order to reset it before troubleshooting an EverChill RV refrigerator.

But because most models need both to function, make sure there is also power and check the fuse.

However, there is much more to do than that.

Consequently, we’ll look at the following in the guide:

  • How to reset your RV refrigerator, EverChill
  • Why isn’t your fridge cooling?
  • How to repair a refrigerator when the temperature isn’t right
  • Why is the light on your refrigerator blinking?
  • Which refrigerator for an RV is the best?

So let’s begin at the beginning and examine all that is available.

How Is The Everchill RV Refrigerator Reset?

Turn off the power at the breaker for at least two hours to reset an EverChill RV refrigerator.

When the refrigerator is turned off, the control system may often clear the problem and resume regular functioning.

There is no reset button on EverChill RV refrigerators.

Simply stop the electricity, which in an RV is often done at the breaker panel, to reset it.

Reconnect it to the power source after waiting a few hours.

I’m done now.

It’s not difficult in any way.

Resetting is often used as the first step in a diagnostic process.

It could be the best course of action to ask why your EverChill isn’t cooling if you’re unsure of the cause.

EverChill refrigerators are entirely powered by batteries (or shore power), which raises the following question that you’ve undoubtedly been wanting an answer to:

What Distinguishes Coach Batteries From Chassis Batteries?

I described the variations in a recent piece of mine.

Intriguing questions such whether operating an RV charges its batteries and if the chassis battery can charge the housing batteries were also addressed.

Why Isn’t The Refrigerator Cooling In My RV?

A refrigerator in an RV could not be cooling for the following reasons:

  • Unreliable thermostat
  • Being unlevel
  • A blown fuse or a trip breaker
  • Relays on the control board

Of course, this may also be caused by an inactive inverter or a depleted battery while not connected to shore power.

Compared to their “siblings” that we keep in our homes, RV refrigerators must function under challenging circumstances.

They must continue to work while being moved across hills and valleys.

It’s understandable that kids might be picky and fussy.

As I alluded to before, there are a number of potential causes for this.

But let’s focus on 2 of them now because of space.

Faulty Thermostat

The refrigerator may not work properly if the thermostat is broken.

This is due to the compressor, the “heart” of the refrigerator, being controlled by it.

While the compressor is the device that chills things, the thermostat controls the temperature.

Try adjusting the thermostat by one degree to reset it if the refrigerator is not cooling down.

It has to be turned on and restarted.

But if it doesn’t, it has broken down and could even be faulty.

To be sure, disconnect your refrigerator, wait a few hours, and then plug it back in.

After that, retest the thermostat.

You might use an appliance thermometer to check it instead of, or in addition to, turning the thermostat up a degree.

It’s faulty if it doesn’t work as it should, and you may need to hire an expert repairman.

It Isn’t on a Level Surface

You probably take it for granted that your home refrigerator operates flawlessly.

RV refrigerators do not have the luxury of spending the whole day in a cool apartment nook.

They are thus sensitive to how flat the surface they are put on.

They need to be set up on an even surface.

Additionally, you should exercise caution while driving since the chance of the refrigerant—the liquid that provides cooling—swiveling about and causing a blockage that would need expensive repairs—increases with how bouncey and wavy the road is.

That is, in fact, true.

When the refrigerator isn’t level, running it for an extended period of time might harm it.

As a result, the landscape is not flat, which may be one of the reasons your RV refrigerator is not chilling.

You must either park so that it is even or utilize leveling jacks to do so.

How Can I Repair A Refrigerator That Won’t Cool In My RV?

If an RV refrigerator has power but is not cooling, a refrigerant leak may need to be corrected, or it may be that the coils are frozen up and blocking proper cooling.

But do not fret.

We’ll take a closer look at both of them.

If something is not working well or not working at all, you should check a few things to see if they are.

After that, they need to be fixed or replaced.

Many things might be the cause of your refrigerator not chilling, as I alluded to previously.

Let’s look at two of these variables and some action steps.

The Strange Smell

Both I and you are aware of it.

When the refrigerator isn’t chilling, a strange odor emanates from it.

It is nitrate.

RV refrigerators are absorption-type appliances that transfer heat using cooling coils that are filled with a solution of ammonia, water, hydrogen gas, and sodium chlorate.

Ammonia smells indicate a leak has occurred.

I’m afraid you can’t do it yourself in this case, therefore it’s better to hire a repairman.

This is the worst case situation since it would need purchasing a new refrigerator.

Freezer Compartment is Functional.

It’s necessary to release or replace the evaporator fan if the freezer section is operating properly.

Verify the freezer’s functionality.

If so, there is a gap between the two if the fridge isn’t.

Through a duct known as a diffuser, the evaporator fan is in charge of transferring cold air from the freezer to the main food compartment.

It’s in the freezer’s back, in the middle.

To determine if the diffuser is ice-blocked, listen to the fan.

What Does It Signify When The Refrigerator Light On My Everchill RV Blinks?

Blinking EverChill RV refrigerator lights might be an indication of a faulty connection or insufficient electricity to the appliance.

EverChill refrigerators are solely 12-volt devices by design.

They need 10.5 or 11 volts to operate.

There may not be enough juice in the battery, which would explain the blinking.

When the compressor is not drawing enough juice from the battery, the indicator blinks.

EverChill refrigerators need a significant amount of electricity during the “start-up” period.

Making ensuring the battery has adequate amperage for the compressor to use is the ideal solution.

If the blinking continues after plugging the refrigerator into shore power, it is likely that the batteries are not providing enough electricity.
